Memory foam was developed in the 1970s by NASA to enable astronauts to absorb the forces of gravity in a better way as they took off and re-entered the atmosphere. There was only partial working of the first foam. The researchers wanted to eliminate pressure points and so they invented the visco-elastic foam which can come back to the original form when pressure is removed. This foam is otherwise known as memory foam.
Before the invention of memory foam, conventional materials such as latex or basic polyurethane foam were used to make toppers for mattresses. The disadvantage with these materials is that it cannot relieve pressure points. This can make it very uncomfortable for users as they can experience sleeplessness owing to the pressure points. The memory foam mattress toppers are very useful in that they offer a lot of health benefits and are made using superior material to give maximum comfort.
